Babak’s Education

Babak Kazemi started his musical training by learning piano with renowned piano teachers such as Tamara Dolize, and Delbar Hakim Ava. Babak then continued his musical journey by studying theory of music, harmony of music, form, counterpoint, and composition with Tengiz Shavlokhashvili.

Babak then started his composition lessons at Royal College of Music with tutors such as Dr Jonathan Cole. He also had piano lessons with Niel Immelman at RCM. Shortly after, Babak received a scholarship to study conducting and composition at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

He studied composition with Dr Joe Cutler and conducting with Edwin Roxburgh and Daniel Rosina at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

While studying at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, he attended various piano and orchestral conducting masterclasses. He also took part in opera conducting masterclasses by Maestro Dejan Savic. The first opera he conducted as principal conductor with full staging and full symphony orchestra was Magic Flute by Mozart.

Practical Experience

Since 2014, Babak has been working as the Music director and Chief Conductor of a London based symphony orchestra, Light of Music.

He composed his debut concert with Light of Music in 2015, which was performed in the Victoria and Albert Museum. In 2016 he composed and conducted the Ode to Peace concert with Light of Music Symphony Orchestra at Cadogan Hall, London.

In 2016 Babak was also the guest conductor of Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra during recording of Mahler Symphony No.4. He then returned to Cadogan Hall with Light of Music Symphony Orchestra to conduct his latest composition called Sacred Unity for symphony orchestra and choir in October 2017.

In 2018 Babak appeared in BBC Radio 4, in an interview about his work and experience in conducting Debussy’s music. In 2018 he was appointed the guest conductor of Tehran Symphony Orchestra and conducted a concert programme of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky’s symphonic works.

Apart from conducting and composition, Babak has been teaching piano lessons in Birmingham, theory of music and composition to students of all ages and levels. He also helps students take their music exams with very successful results.
